OB-GYNs Could Lose Right of Conscience on Abortion.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) has released an ethics statement mandating all OB-GYNs to either perform or refer patients for abortions. The statement went on to say that physicians should not express their faith-based ethical views to their patients and that they should relocate their practices closer to abortion clinics to make referrals more convenient. This statement has been vigorously protested by the Christian Medical Association (CMA) and several members of Congress. Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt has also weighed in representing the Bush administration. CMA Senior Vice President and Obstetrician/Gynecologist Dr. Gene Rudd discusses this disastrous statement by ACOG as well as its impact on licensing and a physician's practice as well as the right of conscience of all professions. The Bible clearly deals with the unborn child throughout the book and reflects a strong sanctity of life perspective. This perspective is based on scripture which indicates that the fetus was created by God and seen by Him (Psalm 139:13-16), considered worthy to be called by name (Isaiah 49:1, 5), and set apart for specific tasks (Jeremiah 1:4-5). Other Old Testament passages which affirm the personhood of the unborn include Job 3:3-4; Psalm 95:6-7, 100:3, 119:73; Isaiah 44:2,24. The encounter between Mary and Elizabeth recorded in Luke 1:41-45 implies that even three months before birth John was fulfilling his prophetic role, and early in gestation Jesus was already a person worthy of honor. As the liberal elitists and anti-Christians begin running our medical practice, they will push their sick and perverted agenda of death over life, as they clearly do not honor or glorify God. Christian doctors need to continue to stand up and not give in to this ethic statement. Until then.
